St. John’s, December 4, 2024 . We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ivor Grenville Theophilus Bird. As the son of Sir V.C. Bird, former Prime Minister and leader of the ABLP, Ivor dedicated his life to serving both the Party and the nation. His remarkable contributions in media management at ZDK transformed it into the most influential private radio station in Antigua and Barbuda.

Known affectionately as ‘The Silent One,’ Ivor became a beloved figure in the radio landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the airwaves for over four decades. His innovative approach to broadcasting not only revolutionized radio in our community but also ensured that ZDK served as a vital voice for the ABLP, its policies and programs.

Ivor will be fondly remembered for his engaging music countdowns that celebrated Caribbean artists and for his genuine connection with the everyday person. His dedication to the community and the Party was unwavering, and he was a cherished friend and trusted ally to many.

On behalf of the leadership and membership of the ABLP, we extend our heartfelt condolences. We are grateful for the legacy Ivor has left behind and will carry on his memory with respect and appreciation.

Thank you, Ivor and farewell.

E. P. Chet Greene,

Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party
