ABS Television – Antigua and Barbuda has lost one of its pioneering figures. Egbert Merril Thwaites, whose camera lens captured the precious moments of many families from his Photo studio at the corner of All Saints Road and DeSouza Roads has passed away.

His tell-tale backdrop for his studio shoots may still be seen in households that hold on to those striking black and white memories that were well taken by a master photographer in the 60s and 70s.

Next door to his photo studio was a small shop from where he sold some of the most delightful ice cream cones to members of the Ottos community and further afield.

His establishment and the foundation of his business struck such a positive cord across the entire community that the area famously became known as Thwaites Corner.

Mr Thwaites was 99 1/2 years old and is survived by his life partner, Eunice Rawlins and his children to include well-known Uroligist, Dr. Dwayne ‘Baba’ Thwaites.
