Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) – The Chief of Defence Staff, Colonel Telbert Benjamin along with members of the Antigua Barbuda Defence Force took part in the remembrance day parade for Sir Vere Cornwall Bird.

Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, KNH was the first Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda from November 1, 1981, when the nation gained its Independence to 1994.

Sir Vere Bird was declared a National Hero in 1994. In 1943, he became the President of the Antigua Trades and Labour Union and was a Political Leader of Antigua and Barbuda with over 28 years of service to the nation.

A true and dedicated regionalist, Sir Vere Bird played an integral role in Caribbean unity from the period of Federation, through CARIFTA to CARICOM and was one of the signatories to the CARIFTA Agreement in 1965.
